Ukraine (Buchach, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, and Oleksandriya)
8 Mar 2026
Friends of Oleksandriya representatives travel to Ukraine to deliver aid, support hospitals, and strengthen partnerships.
This week, from 8th March to 14th March, Zhenya Shkil, Chair of the Friends of Oleksandriya, and William Jackson, Trustee of the Friends of Oleksandriya, are undertaking an important visit to Ukraine as part of our ongoing humanitarian and partnership work.
The first stage of the trip involves delivering 4x4 vehicles for the front line, helping provide essential mobility and logistical support to Ukrainian military personnel. During the visit, Zhenya and William will travel to Buchach Regional Hospital in Ternopilska Oblast to assess the hospital’s need for a backup generator, which would help ensure uninterrupted medical services during power outages.
They will then continue to Khmelnytskyi, where the vehicles will be formally transferred to military personnel, ensuring they reach the units that need them most. While in the region, they will also meet with the Zhytomyr Volunteer Organisation to discuss and plan future cultural and humanitarian collaboration projects.
The final stage of the trip will be three days in Oleksandriya, Bath’s sister city. There, they will:
Check the installation and operation of the 80kW generator recently provided to the Dental Hospital, ensuring it is functioning correctly and supporting the hospital’s work.
Meet with the Veteran Group “Restart 2025” to discuss how the funds raised during the concert “United 4 Peace” can be best used to move forward the Veteran Gym project.
This gym will provide an important rehabilitation and community space for veterans. The equipment is currently being sourced from across England, with the help of students from the University of Bath, demonstrating the strong and growing partnership between our communities.
This visit represents another step in strengthening the friendship between Bath and Oleksandriya, while delivering practical support where it is most urgently needed.
