An evening of song, reflection, and generosity.

What a wonderful evening we had on Thursday night at the opening of the Icons on Ammunition Boxes exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery.

These twenty unique icons are by three well known Ukrainian iconographers, Sofiia Atlamtova, Oleksandr Klymenko, and Herman Klymenko. They have painted onto the wooden bases and lids of ammunition boxes from the front line in Ukraine. The atmosphere was truly special — the icons displayed on the Rotunda looked stunning, and the whole event was beautifully put together.

We also had a fascinating talk on iconography by Tamara Penwell, where we all learned a great deal. Her insights helped many of us see icons in a completely new light, and we are deeply grateful for her contribution to the evening. The musical part of the night was unforgettable. Yuliia Lut filled the entire gallery with a voice that was truly out of this world — rich, soaring, and deeply moving.

I’m delighted to share that we raised £300 in cash and £95 through card transfers. Some of this came from ticket payments, while the rest were generous donations to support our cause.

A huge thanks also to Marian McNeir for her unwavering support and to the Victoria Art Gallery and Natalie Levy for their incredible collaboration.

The exhibition is open until 1st November absolutely free of charge. Please come and see the icons with your own eyes - they are not to be missed!

We are also delighted to announce that one of the icons (#14: The 7 arrows icon of the mother of god) has been sold. All the icon exhibits are for sale and proceeds from the sales will go to frontline medical aid in Ukraine.
